Dr. Poh specializes in laparoscopic nephron-sparing nephrectomies for kidney tumors. In this technically challenging procedure, patients with kidney cancer no longer have to lose the entire kidney. With a keyhole approach, the tumor together with a rim of kidney tissue can be selectively resected. This can be achieved with good cancer control and an excellent post-operation recovery.
Traditional laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for kidney cancers is performed through 3-4 small ports (holes) to gain access to the kidney in the abdominal cavity. In LESS surgery, resection of the cancerous kidney can be performed through a single port. This improves the cosmetic results of the operation without compromising cancer control. In this centre, the LESS approach is also used in MIS adrenalectomy and kidney cysts excision.
Dr. Poh is one of the few urologists in Singapore who specializes in this technically challenging operation for prostate cancer. With this technique, good cancer control is attained with an expedient post-operation recovery. This is achieved with small keyhole incisions in the abdominal wall. A patient typically gets discharged from the hospital 2-3 days after the operation.
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor is performed under spinal anesthesia and the operation is done via an endoscope inserted through the urethra of the patient. The tumor in the bladder is then resected using PlasmakineticTM technology. Without an open wound, the post-operation recovery is good with a short hospital stay.
This minimally invasive technique has been used successfully to remove large kidney stones with small surgical wounds. Dr Poh performs Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for kidney stones using the highly specialized hybrid ultrasound/fluoroscopic localization technique. To date he has performed more than 500 PCNLs, many of which involved patients with challenging anatomical deformities and complex stones.

This is the traditional approach to surgically resect the enlarged prostate gland. It is associated with a short hospital stay and good post-operation results. In small and medium-sized prostate glands, it is still considered the gold-standard treatment in the surgical management of benign prostate enlargement.
This highly specialized technique is used to treat benign prostate enlargement. In big prostates, it has been shown to be superior to the traditional TURP. Dr Poh is one of the few urologists who has been fellowship-trained in this procedure and is one of the most experienced urologists in Singapore with this technique.
